Our ESG score evaluates three pillars: Environmental (60% weight) — carbon intensity, fuel type, ETS exposure, vessel age efficiency; Social (20%) — PSC detention record, crew welfare indicators, flag state MLC compliance; Governance (20%) — classification society quality, flag state reputation, P&I club standing. The composite score ranges from 0 to 100.

The environmental pillar (60% of total) considers: vessel carbon intensity (CO₂ per nautical mile based on DWT, speed, and fuel type), EU ETS cost exposure for European routes, fuel type efficiency (LNG/methanol score highest, HFO lowest), EEDI/EEXI compliance based on build year, and vessel age efficiency degradation. Newer vessels with cleaner fuels score significantly higher.

ESG ratings increasingly drive commercial decisions: charterers screen vessels by ESG score (Poseidon Principles), banks require ESG disclosure for ship finance, insurers offer premium discounts for high-rated vessels, and regulators (EU ETS, FuelEU Maritime, CII) impose costs on low-performing ships. A vessel with ESG rating below C may face 10-20% higher operating costs by 2027.
